DEADLY DENTAL JOBS

Aboriginal employment at Dental Health Services Victoria

DHSV is committed to reconciliation and to supporting the career development of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People.

DHSV is dedicated to improving the oral and general health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

We are leading the way in the employment and engagement of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workforce. Since 2013, we have achieved the 1% employment target outlined by Karreeta Yirramboi (The Victorian Government's Aboriginal Employment Strategy) and have continued to build on that strong foundation work by focusing on attraction, engagement and development of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workforce.

In 2015, we were recognised by the Australian Human Resources Institute for excellence in indigenous employment initiatives and programs in the workplace, winning the best practice in Indigenous Employment Award.

Dental Assistant Traineeship Program

Each year DHSV has engaged Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders who are interested in undertaking their Certificate III in Dental Assisting. These Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Dental Assistants work closely with dental professionals to deliver oral health care and education to their fellow communities.

Future traineeships will be communicated via this website. Keep an eye out for these opportunities as they arise.

Celebrating Respect, Diversity & Inclusion

We are proud of our culture of diversity and inclusion, recognising and celebrating Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander days of significance throughout the year. These include Cultural Diversity Week, National Reconciliation Week, NAIDOC Week, and Close the Gap. We also pay our respects by sharing an acknowledgement of Country at every DHSV event. These DHSV events are designed to educate and inspire.

Aboriginal Cultural Awareness Training

As part of our onboarding process, we require all staff to learn more about Aboriginal Culture in Victoria through our Aboriginal Cultural Awareness Online training.

The Royal Dental Hospital of Melbourne (RDHM) is located on the traditional lands of the Wurundjeri People. We pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging and acknowledge all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the first people of this nation.
